 This mesmerizing creature was discovered in 1998 off the shore of Sulawesi in Indonesia on the base of a grimy river mouth. For the next 2 years, scientists film nine  different mimic octopuses, Thaumoctopus mimicus (Norman & Hochberg, 2005.Mimic octopuses reach about 60 cm in length and their tentacles grow to be 25 inches long, with a diameter about the same as a pencil at their widest.

The octopus’s natural color is a light brown/beige color. However, they are usually a more perceptible color of banded white and brown to jolt off predators by appear to be poisonous.It is unfamiliar whether the mimic octopus is in fact venomous to its predators.

This shows how one species of octopus, the Mimic Octopus, will modify its shape to mimic different poisonous and dangerous flora and fauna of the sea. So far, scientists recognize at least 15 different mimicked species in the catalogue.

We know we should never underestimate the octopus, and these videos prove it. . They can escape through impossibly small holes, open canisters of food, beat sharks in a battle of life and death, mimic other sea creatures, and show some amazing hunting and hiding skills.
